No shirt, No shoes, No service baby! ~rant

September 23, 2009

Well, not a rant really. More of a… WHAT AN IDIOT, post.  *lol*

“Burger King has apologized to a St. Louis area woman who was told to leave a restaurant because her 6-month-old daughter wasn't wearing shoes.

A spokeswoman for the restaurant chain said Wednesday that workers at the Sunset Hills Burger King took the "no shoes, no shirt, no service" policy too far.

Jennifer Frederich went to the restaurant Sunday along with her mother and Jennifer's 6-month-old daughter, Kaylin. Workers told them to leave because of the shoeless baby, citing a health code violation.

They ate hurriedly, and then left.

Burger King spokeswoman Denise Wilson says health codes do not include no-shoes provisions; it is simply restaurant policy.

Frederich and her family were offered a free meal”.

Offered a free meal! HA!  I guess this story really got to me for 2 reasons. #1. Because I have a baby who does not wear shoes most of the time. His feet never touch the floor of a restaurant.  #2. I’ve had an episode involving good old Burger King, me being pregnant and sick as a dog, and a fight breaking out between a BK worker and my mother of all people.

Having a disorder during all 3 of my pregnancies causing me to be nauseated 24/7 and only being able to eat and keep down a few things was hard enough. Getting a craving for a BK chicken sandwich turned out to make it even harder. When my mom took me to get the food that night I specifically asked for an unburnt piece of meat (having had plenty of those sandwiches in the past being burnt to a crisp) I knew I would not be able to eat it if it was given to me that way.  We were given a darkened piece of chicken, of course, but when my mom went back up and ask for another sandwich the clerk got irate. She threw another sandwich at my mom. Just wanting to get out of there we took the meal and went to the table. Opening up this 2nd sandwich…it too was burnt! My mom was MAD! She went and asks to speak to the manager to find out why it was so hard to get a decent piece of meat when asked twice. This same girl jumped over the counter and came at my mom like a mad woman! Shock didn’t cover my feelings at that moment.

Needless to say we could have sued but didn’t, just filed a complaint with the better business bureau. I never went back to that particular BK and I rarely eat at them even to this day.

Get your act together Burger King!

9m old giant baby, it's a(nother) boy, shower yada

September 21, 2009

For anyone who might me wondering, I'm feeling quite a bit better than the last time I posted. I've had a few "baby" breaks and it’s done me good. I'm still a little down but not nearly as much as before and that’s really only because I have still yet to get some things I really want to done.

So, Gabriel had his 9 month check up today...boy was that an experience! He absolutely HATES being laid on the exam table naked and same goes for the baby scale. He cried the whole time! By the time we left he was so splotchy it looked like he had a rash covering his entire face. Not so cute. And snubbing up a storm too. Ha-ha! He is in the 75% for his weight which I already expected (the chunk) but when she told me he was at just about 100% for height I was surprised. I knew he was a tall baby…but he is a REALLY TALL baby! Lol. Meaning he is almost taller than 100% of babies his age. I was wondering why we had trouble fitting him into 12month sized pants even. Shoooo… I did end up getting him a flu shot even though I have been going back and forth with it. The doctor really suggests all babies over 6m have one this season. They hadn’t had any complaints this yr from the vaccine causing the flu so other than a slight fever he should be fine. (Now if we can stay clear of the H1N1 for now) The bigger boys and I have our flu mist ready to take when they get home. His pediatrician isn’t sure yet if they will be getting the swine flu vaccine or not, but it they do we are already on the list to reserve one for us all.

In other news I was excited to find out today cousin Jessie (pregnant with her first) is having a bouncing boy. Hers due in January which means a boy close to Gabriel’s age for him to grow up with! Yay! The older boys have Jarret and now Gabe will have baby Hayden (well, that’s the chosen name for him at this moment in time) I have sooooooooo many clothes to hand down to her (sorry jenn…I saved them for as long as I could) now I’ll have to rewash and iron them all.

Deshawn’s bridal shower was a hit yesterday. I had fun. Great food and funny games, and it was good to just be around women for a while. Not a one boy in sight. Other than a tiny bit of drama (some about a person in attendance for a short time and another bit revolving around someone who should been but wasn’t there) it was a carefree environment. Now I got to go and find a dress in either apple red or black to match her wedding colors. That’ll be fun. All my boys are going matching in black dress slacks and little red bow ties! CUTE!

mommy blues

September 15, 2009

I have been going through a bout of the mommy blues as of late. Family knows that I’ve had it a few times since Gabriel’s birth but it usually quickly diminishes. This most recent round seems rather difficult and I’m really struggling to move past it. I suppose it’s a lot to do with the baby getting older and more independent and at the same time more needy as well. His naps are few and far between and only minutes when they do come. I’m hoping to get a little advice on his sleeping habits from the Pediatrician this coming Friday. (9 months check-up)

I know I have only myself to blame for his spoiled nature (how can I not know when EVERYONE tells me as much), but it doesn’t help the fact that he is and I’m trying to break him of it and its slow going.

The lack of personal time is what’s really causing frustration lately. I have absolutely no time during the day to do things for myself and I always look forward to the afternoon/night when I am hopeful for those quiet moments when I might have the opportunity to fit some in. Usually I am disappointed and by the time all is calm in the household I am just too tired to do anything.

I am very motivated by the prospect of opening up shop and selling some of my new clay projects but finding the time to bring any of my ideas to fruition is nonexistent. I had hoped for a mid September opening featuring adorable Halloween themed items but it most definitely will not be happening. The idea of having to wait until next season for those makes me unhappy.

I know eventually my mood will lighten, as Gabriel is my heart, but I can’t help but feel down for the time being.

Everyday Blessings 9-10-2009

September 10, 2009
I have this adorable little book that I keep in my purse. Its titled Everyday Blessings and its written by Max Lucado. There is a specific page for every day of the year and on each day it has a bible verse and an inspirational thought written by the author that reflects that verse. I find it very refreshing to pull out my little book every day when I'm feeling especially stressed or down and it seems to always help.

I found today's quote especially inspiring and I wanted to share.

"What would a person look like if they had never sinned? If no worry wrinkled his brow and no anger shadowed his eyes? If no bitterness snarled his lips and no selfishness bowed his smile? If a person had never sinned, how would he appear?
We'll know when we see Jesus."

and followed by the verse:
His head and hair were white like wool, as white as snow, and his eyes were like flames of fire.

My new pretty

September 8, 2009

I got the biggest surprise upon Jason's return home on Saturday! This new gorgeous 2010 Honda CRV!
We had been talking about really NEEDING to buy a new car. As much as I love "The Silver Bullet" (what we call my silver Volvo) it’s already 9 yrs old with transmission troubles that were any day going to be an emergency repair situation.
As I went out for lunch and errands with my mom, he met his mom to do lunch with her and some (supposed) window shopping at prices and size. I called him a few times in anticipation, but each time he told me they weren't finding much.
I got home and he was soon to be home himself telling me we would need to go out again together someday soon.
I was back on the bed with the baby playing when he came in and dropped the keys on my lap.
He had been fibbing every time I spoke to him!
I was soooooooooo excited about my new treasure. Of course he would have preferred something a little more masculine but picked the CRV and this glacial blue color or silver blue color because he knew I had wanted one for yrs. I had been in love with them ever since seeing the new body style they came out with a while back. (We had an older version and style many yrs back that we had to sell)
So the boys will be safer with lots more room and I will at peace of mind driving them around.

New Look!

September 3, 2009
Not much time for posting after updating the look around here but I wanted to give a big hug & THANK YOU to Jenn for my new blog banner. I love it girl. I may be able to do all kinds of different styles of art but blends, minipulations and banners were always alien to me. So...yay! Its my own personal banner and I love it!

First Practice/Last Physical Therapy!

September 2, 2009
Yayyyyy! I'm so excited to say that Gabriel is finally free and clear and discharged from his physical therapy! Yesterday was his last session with Mrs. Nanette and though we'll miss her we know that not seeing her means our baby is normal and healthy.
I guess only family reading this would know what I'm talking about so I suppose I could explain.
Our Gabriel was born with Congenital Torticollis (shortened or tightened neck and back muscles) which went undiagnosed by his regular pediatrician until he was 5 months. I had been concerned about a slight flattening on one side of the back of his head and him not turning to look in the other direction nor sleeping on that side. His new Ped. (who had to helmet one of her sons) knew what is was as soon as she checked him.
anyway... Gabriel didn't have the normal condition with it effecting only one side of his neck/back (which called "wryneck" makes their faces and heads tilt to one side) but both the left and right side of his back/neck.
We'd had been going to the physical therapist for the last 3 months every week to every other week since diagnosed and We were having to do daily stretches and exercises to loosen and stretch his muscles out. Now that he is sitting without support and scooting along to almost crawling we knew our work was paying off and that his muscles were not effecting his normal progression. After one last visit to Nanette she verified that he is ALL BETTER! Yay! So other than the little flat spot (that Dr. Lana assures us will round out still a little more as he gets older) he is a normal little guy.

He is getting SO big! I love to spike his hair into a little mohawk. Hee hee...

In other news Taylor had his very first practice of the season on Monday. He was thrilled to have the coach doting all over him and telling us... "Taylors putting on great size for football!" LOL. Hes grown a head taller and a few more pounds as well. All the praise did him some good and he was knocking guys out of the way like crazy (even though mommy still can't get over the roughness and worry about him getting hurt). Hes just growning up too fast! Hes taller and more muscled than a typical 10 yr old as well much to my dismay which makes him look older than he is. He already has the older girlies trying to flirt with him when we are out. *sighs* I don't like it one bit. LOL.

Peyton is all signed up for Soccer but his practices don't start til near the end of September. At least that way we won't have conflicting practice and game times.

Little Debber

August 28, 2009

This week has been a nightmare for me and any personal time. (Grumpy spoiled baby...might be my next blog post)
I did however finish one of the pixel gifts I had been working on. Its for Debbercakes...a "Little Debber" version of her whuddle. (just like the sweet snack cakes)
Hope you like it Deb. She is a small doll but I figured you already had a big whuddle.
As you can see I used one of your outfit choices given but I mixed up the hairstyle a bit. I liked this style better because it gave the doll a little more color and this hair reminds me more of you anyway. ;)

In case anyone may have noticed I have been some what MIA from WhuddleWorld. I still try to stop by on a daily basis to donate wafer, play the crane, etc. but I feel if I don't have a slight break from the place I might just grow out of it all together. I'm going to try to be better in the upcoming week about stopping by my good whuddle pals omnibuses and catching up but this week has just been too rough on me.

Currently offline I AM working on polymer clay projects as well as some matchboxes/tins and I plan on posting some photos when I have enough of them I am proud to show.

Sugaree Sweet Treat

August 21, 2009

Mmmmm...cupcake. *drools*  But this one is not for eating! I just had to post a photo of the newest addition to my unique jewelry collection. Sooooooo sweet isn't it? I just had to have it! This little sweety is even chocolate scented.

I've recently been getting back into trying my hand at polymer clay charm making. It really takes determination to create something like this. It has made me truely appreciate and be inspired by the talented girls who can make something so tiny and detailed such as this little piece of yumminess. This one was made by Aubree. I'm hoping with practice I can one day be as good as she and maybe make a little money on the side by selling mine.

Just to show how small this is I took another photo for size reference. Now I just have to find a red cord necklace to wear it with.

Sugaree Sweets will be a new category for me to post random things I find too adorable and want to share.
